Expressing Opinions in Italian
When chatting with friends about books, movies, or events at an A2 level, you often want to share what you think. Here are the most natural ways to do it!
1. Secondo me... (In my opinion...)
Use secondo me at the beginning or end of a sentence to share your viewpoint.
- Secondo me, questo film è fantastico. (In my opinion, this movie is fantastic.)
2. Penso che... (I think that...)
Use penso che to introduce your thoughts. Note: In standard Italian, 'penso che' is usually followed by the subjunctive mood for advanced speakers, but at A2 level, we often use it with simple indicative forms to keep things conversational!
- Penso che il libro sia molto interessante. (I think that the book is very interesting.)
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Don't mix up the two! Say secondo me (according to me), not secondo io. And remember that penso che means 'I think that', so you don't need to add another 'che' inside the clause.
