Working Conditions in Italian
When talking about jobs in Italy, discussing salary (lo stipendio), hours (l'orario di lavoro), and vacation (le ferie) is very common. In this lesson, you will learn how to describe your working conditions using simple A2 vocabulary and grammar.
Expressing Hours and Salary
To talk about what you earn or your schedule, use the verbs guadagnare (to earn) and lavorare (to work).
- Lavoro quaranta ore a settimana. (I work forty hours a week.)
- Guadagno milleduecento euro al mese. (I earn twelve hundred euros a month.)
Talking About Vacation
Vacation time is very important! Use the noun le ferie (vacation/leave) or i giorni di ferie (vacation days).
- Quanti giorni di ferie hai? (How many vacation days do you have?)
- Ho tre settimane di ferie in estate. (I have three weeks of vacation in the summer.)
Common Mistakes
Mistake: Saying "Lavoro per soldi." when you mean "I work for a salary."
Correction: Use lo stipendio for salary and i soldi only for money in general.
