Unit 6 Review and Practice
Welcome to the final review of Unit 6: Work, Professions, and Study! In this lesson, we will consolidate essential professional vocabulary and master the future tense (il futuro semplice) to discuss future careers, goals, and study plans.
The Future Tense in Italian
To talk about what you will do, change the ending of the verb. Regular verbs drop the last vowel and add future endings (-ò, -ai, -à, -emo, -ete, -anno).
- Lavorare (to work) → lavorerò (I will work)
- Prendere (to take) → prenderò (I will take)
- Finire (to finish) → finirò (I will finish)
Common Irregular Verbs
Some important verbs have irregular stems in the future:
- Essere (to be) → sarò (I will be)
- Avere (to have) → avrò (I will have)
- Fare (to do/make) → farò (I will do)
- Potere (to be able) → potrò (I will be able)
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Mistake: Using the present tense for future plans.
Correction: Use the future tense when making predictions or statements about the future, just like in English: "Domani lavorerò da casa" (Tomorrow I will work from home).
