The Four Seasons in Italian
In this lesson, we will explore the four seasons (le quattro stagioni), the months of the year, and how to describe what you do during each season.
The Seasons
- la primavera – spring
- l'estate – summer
- l'autunno – autumn
- l'inverno – winter
Note that seasons usually take the definite article in Italian: In primavera (In spring) or In estate (In summer).
Months and Weather
Months (i mesi) are not capitalized in Italian: gennaio, febbraio, marzo. To talk about weather and activities, we use phrases like:
- Fa caldo in estate. (It is hot in summer.)
- Nevica in inverno. (It snows in winter.)
Common Mistakes
Avoid capitalizing months like in English. Remember: write giugno, not Giugno.
