Describing Your Town in Italian
When you want to talk about where you live, you need adjectives! In Italian, adjectives must match the gender (masculine/feminine) and number (singular/plural) of the noun they describe.
Basic Adjective Endings
- -o (masculine singular) becomes -a (feminine singular), -i (masculine plural), and -e (feminine plural). Example: storico (historic) becomes storica, storici, storiche.
- -e (masculine and feminine singular) becomes -i (plural for both). Example: tranquillo or words ending in -e like moderno.
Common Adjectives
| Italian | English |
|---|---|
| tranquillo | quiet / peaceful |
| caotico | chaotic |
| storico | historic |
| moderno | modern |
| piccolo | small |
| grande | big |
Common Mistake: Forgetting to change the adjective ending! Remember: una città caotica (feminine), but un paese caotico (masculine).
