Emotions and Well-being in Italian
In this lesson, you will learn how to talk about your feelings, manage stress, and express happiness in Italian. Expressing how you feel is essential for everyday conversations!
Key Emotions and States
- Felice – Happy
- Triste – Sad
- Stresso / Stressata – Stressed (male/female)
- Tranquillo / Tranquilla – Calm
- Preoccupato / Preoccupata – Worried
- Stanco / Stanca – Tired
Expressing Feelings
We often use the verb essere (to be) with adjectives to describe emotional states. Remember that adjectives must match the gender and number of the person speaking!
| Italian | English |
|---|---|
| Io sono felice. | I am happy. |
| Lei è molto stressata. | She is very stressed. |
Common Mistakes
Avoid saying just "Ho stress" (I have stress). While sometimes heard, standard Italian uses the verb essere with the adjective: Sono stressato/a (I am stressed).
