Traditional Italian Dishes

Traditional Italian Dishes in Italy

When you travel through Italy, every region has its own famous specialty! At the A2 level, you can describe what a dish is made of and ask about local recipes.

Key Ingredients

  • Il pomodoro (tomato)
  • Il formaggio (cheese)
  • La carne (meat)

We use è fatto con (it is made with) to describe ingredients. For example: La pizza margherita è fatta con pomodoro e mozzarella. (Pizza Margherita is made with tomato and mozzarella.)

Common Mistake

Don't confuse adjectives! Remember that food adjectives agree in gender and number: pasta fresca (fresh pasta) vs. vino rosso (red wine).
