Unit 9 Review: Health & Body
Welcome to the review lesson for Unit 9! In this lesson, we will consolidate three key areas: body parts, expressing health issues, and using basic reflexive verbs to talk about daily routines and feelings.
1. Body Parts (Le Parti del Corpo)
We use definite articles with body parts in Italian (e.g., il, la, i, le) rather than possessive adjectives.
- la testa (the head)
- la mano (the hand)
- il piede (the foot)
2. Health Phrases (La Salute)
To say something hurts, use mi fa male (singular) or mi fanno male (plural).
- Mi fa male la testa. (My head hurts.)
- Ho la febbre. (I have a fever.)
3. Reflexive Verbs (Verbi Riflessivi)
Reflexive verbs show that the subject does the action to itself. Notice the reflexive pronouns: mi (myself), ti (yourself), si (himself/herself).
- alzarsi: Mi alzo presto. (I get up early.)
- sentirsi: Come ti senti? (How do you feel?)
Common Mistakes
Don't say "Ho dolore alla testa" as your primary phrase; while correct, mi fa male la testa is much more natural! Also remember that mano is feminine (la mano, le mani).
