Sizes and Prices

Sizes and Prices in Italian

When you go shopping in Italy, you need to know how to ask for the price and find your size! This lesson covers essential phrases for clothing shopping.

1. Asking for the Price

To ask how much something costs, use:

  • Quanto costa? – How much does it cost? (for singular items)
  • Quanto costano? – How much do they cost? (for plural items)

2. Clothing Sizes

Italian clothing tags might use letters similar to English, but it helps to know the words:

  • piccolo – small
  • medio – medium
  • grande – large

Example: Vorrei una maglietta media, per favore. (I would like a medium t-shirt, please.)

Common Mistake

Don't mix up costa (it costs) and costano (they cost). Use costa for one item and costano for multiple items!
