Review: Shopping & Clothes
Welcome to your final review unit! In this lesson, we bring together everything you need to go shopping in Italy: clothing items, expressing costs, and using modal verbs to make polite requests.
1. Clothing & Shopping Vocabulary
To talk about clothes, remember that nouns have genders (masculine or feminine) and numbers (singular or plural):
- la camicia (shirt) / le camicie (shirts)
- i pantaloni (trousers - always plural in Italian)
- le scarpe (shoes)
- il cappello (hat)
2. Asking for Prices & Sizes
Use quanto costa? (how much does it cost?) for singular items, and quanto costano? (how much do they cost?) for plural items. To ask for help, use modal verbs:
- Voglio comprare una camicia. (I want to buy a shirt.)
- Posso pagare con la carta? (Can I pay by card?)
Common Mistake: Saying quanto costa pantaloni. Since trousers are plural, you must say quanto costano i pantaloni?.
