Unit 5 Review: Around Town
In this lesson, we will consolidate everything you have learned about navigating the city, talking about locations, and using the verb andare (to go).
1. The Verb Andare (To Go)
Remember that 'andare' is an irregular verb:
- Io vado - I go / I am going
- Tu vai - You go
- Lui/Lei va - He/She goes
- Noi andiamo - We go
- Voi andate - You (plural) go
- Loro vanno - They go
2. Getting Around
We usually combine andare with the preposition a (to) or contractions like al (to the, masculine) and alla (to the, feminine).
- Vado al bar. (I am going to the bar.)
- Vado alla stazione. (I am going to the station.)
Common Mistakes
Students often forget to contract 'a' + 'il' into 'al'. Remember: a + il = al, but a + la = alla!
