Talking About Professions in Italian
In this lesson, you will learn how to introduce yourself and others by stating your job or role. In Italian, when you say what someone's profession is, you usually drop the articles un or una unless there is an adjective attached!
Key Rules
- Use sono (I am) followed by the profession: Sono studente. (I am a student.)
- Use è (he/she is) for others: Lui è medico. (He is a doctor.)
- Professions ending in -e (like studente or insegnante) often have the same form for masculine and feminine in the singular, but look at the article to be sure.
Common Mistakes
Wrong: Sono un professore. (Though grammatically possible in some contexts, the most natural Duolingo-style introduction drops the article: Sono professore).
