The Imperatives

Listen to the lesson audio:

Imperatives
 Positive  form

To make a positive imperative, we must use the base form of the verb, and we don't add "to, -s, -ing " to the verb.

  • Come here.   (to come, comes, coming, come you,)
  • Come here, please.
We can add "please" at the end of the sentence to be more polite.
  • Open your books, please.
  • Hurry up. We're late.
  • Push the door, please.
  • Pull the door.

Some more example sentences for the imperative mood:
  • Shut the windows.
  • Please help me.
  • Open the window please.
  • Turn to page 5.
  • Come in.
  • Go out.
  • Speak to Sam.
  • Please write your name on paper.
  • Drink some water.
  • Go, please.
